When I first heard about Cinnaholic, I was intrigued. It is a pastry shop that prides itself in rolling out non-traditional, vegan cinnamon buns that are not typically found in your typical run-of-the-mill sweets shops. To be honest, although I have had great successes with vegan foods, I was still hesitant on trying vegan cinnamon buns. In my mind, a great traditional cinnamon bun is hard to beat – especially if it is made the right way. So when I saw that Cinnaholic has touted its cinnamon buns as being: Dairy & lactose-free, egg-free, and cholesterol-free, I had to try it out for myself.
At Cinnaholic, you can either go for their signature cinnamon bun flavors or you can opt to choose your own frosting and add as many toppings as you would like. I was too overwhelmed by the endless choices and decided to go for one of their signature flavors, the Peanut Butter and Jealous. It is basically a large cinnamon bun that is covered with ooey gooey peanut butter, jelly, and chocolate chips on top. When I first tasted it, I honestly could not believe that it is a “vegan” cinnamon bun. Perhaps I have always associated vegan foods as being super healthy, green, and taste like something I should eat on a detox diet? But I have never imagined a supposedly healthy cinnamon bun to taste as rich, decadent, and sweet as this one. As soon as it hits my mouth, my jaw dropped and I think my taste buds had an “Hahhhlejuahhh” moment. At some point during the photo-taking section, I probably called my bun gorgeous, beautiful, and asked if I can marry it for the rest of my life. On a more serious note, if you are coming to this pastry shop, remember that you cannot finish this bun by yourself. It is so large, rich, and decadent that you will probably need two people to help you finish the whole thing.
